Privacy Policy

Reading this site is anonymous. It sets no cookies, shows no advertising, and runs no tracking of any kind. There is no account to create and nothing to log in to. The only personal information collected is an email address, and only if you choose to give one to the weekly digest. Everything below explains exactly what happens to it.

The email digest

If you sign up, we store your email address, whether you have confirmed it, when you signed up and confirmed, and which page you signed up from. We also store a scrambled version of the two codes that appear in your links — one confirms your address, the other removes it. The codes themselves are never saved, so even a stolen copy of our records could not be used to sign anyone up or remove them. That is everything. No name, no employer, no address, no record of what you read.

Signing up sends one confirmation email and nothing else. If you never click the link in it, you are never sent a digest, and the incomplete signup is thrown away.

The digest contains no images, so there is no way for us to tell whether you opened it. Links in it go straight to this site and are not rewritten, so we cannot tell what you clicked. There is nothing to opt out of here, because none of it is collected in the first place.

Every digest has an unsubscribe link that works in one click and needs no login. Unsubscribing stops all email immediately. If you would rather your address were deleted outright than simply switched off, ask on the contact page and it will be.

Your address is never sold, rented, traded, or shared, and it is never used for anything except the digest you asked for.

Who else can see your address

Two outside services are involved, and both act only on our instructions: the company that hosts this site, which also stores the address, and an email delivery service, which sends the digest. Your address is given to the delivery service for that purpose and no other. Neither is permitted to use it for their own ends.

How long things are kept

A confirmed subscription is kept until you end it. A signup that is never confirmed is deleted after seven days. The anti-spam records described below are deleted after about two days. We keep a simple operational record of which digests went out, which contains no message content.

What happens when you visit

Like any website, ours receives the technical details a browser has to send in order to be given a page — including the network address you are connecting from. The company that hosts the site handles these briefly to deliver pages and to protect against attacks. They are not used to build a picture of you, and they are not sold or shared.

The signup form has one extra protection: to stop a program submitting thousands of fake signups, we store a scrambled, unreadable version of the network address it came from for about two days. The address itself is never written down, and the scrambled version cannot be turned back into it.

No tracking, no advertising

This site shows no advertising and carries no advertising technology. It contains no tracking pixels, no social media buttons, and no third-party scripts. Nothing on the page reports back to another company about you, and nothing follows you to other websites.

If we ever add a way of counting visitors, it will be a method that cannot identify you individually and does not track you between sites — and this page will say so before it is switched on.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. Not for reading it, not for the email signup, not for anything. Because nothing is stored on your device and nothing follows you elsewhere, there is no consent banner to click — and you will not be shown one.

If accounts are added later

Optional accounts, with features such as saved searches and alerts, may be offered in future. Those would need a sign-in cookie and would involve storing more than an email address. If that happens, this page will be rewritten to describe it fully before the feature is offered. None of it exists today.
